Shoe for disc brake

The shoe (10,20) has a carrier plate (11,21) which is cambered or which comes in channel form or finally forms a bowl shape (31) cambered to or away from a friction pad (22). The camber is restricted to parts of the carrier only or the edges of the plate can be bent in the camber sense. Thus the plate is cambered outwards to give a channel shape (13) and thus a raised surface on the obverse of shoe (10), bevelling the straight edges (18) of the plate on the pad side. In the troughed form, the channel (23) runs in the obverse of shoe (20) for a suitably shaped shoe etc., using the flattened edges to reduce the shoe height. In the raised version (34) of the plate (31), this gives opposed edges (38a) for uniform stiffness.
