Liquids (43) containing harmful micro organisms are sterilised, or mixtures are conditioned, in a process and tubular heat exchanger assembly (1) contained within a housing (7). The novelty is that the bundle of tubes (3) between the inlet (2) and outlet (4) flanges consists of a number of thin-walled capillary tubes (18, 20) of equal length and narrow cross-section. These capillary tubes are joined to the central pipe (12, 13) by fluid inlet passages (15, 16) of equal length and cross-section and hence with the inlet and outlet flanges (2, 4).
