PURPOSE:To provide a method for enhancing the selectivity of a reduction reaction over a nitrogen oxide, in a method for removing the nitrogen oxide contained in an exhaust gas by catalytic reduction using a reducing agent in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The use of an ether as a reduction agent is a characteristic of this method for removing a nitrogen oxide contained in an exhaust gas by catalytic reduction using a reducing agent in the presence of a catalyst. It is possible to use a hydrocarbon concurrently as the reduction agent.
