PURPOSE: To obtain image recording size that a user can select by making use of an electronic camera and processing an image of different resolution. CONSTITUTION: A frame buffer memory 62 stores color image pixels from a sensor 28 corresponding to at least one image. Through a process responding to a resolution mode switch, an instruction selecting the color image pixels horizontally and vertically for output storage is controlled. The instruction selected with the resolution mode switch includes a complete resolution mode, at least one reduced-resolution mode wherein the pixel shape of a source CFA image is precisely reproduced by calculating low-resolution color image pixels, etc. Consequently, the same algorithm is usable irrelevantly to the resolution of the selected image, so the rest of an image chain can easily be processed.
