The cable threading unit (1) consists of a frame (2) suspended by a detachable anchoring unit (3) for fixing the unit (1) to the walls of a trench (5) under the control of a handle (39) operated from above. The anchorage (3) consists of two pads (30) which press against the walls of the trench (5) by link arms (33,34) in the form of a lozenge controlled by a vertical screw thread (38). The frame (2), suspended from anchorage unit (3), is made up of a releasable roller (10) and three guide rollers (11,12A,12B) which supports the cable whilst it is being laid in a trench.
