Described is a device and method for manufacturing stranded copper wire, the stranded wire being wound on a reel (10) using a traverser (20). The invention calls for a control device (60, 85) which monitors the rotation of the reel (10) and the movement of a traversing element (24) in the traverser (20) and controls a separate drive (32) for the traverser (20).
