The control unit for aircraft cockpits is formed by input elements and output elements in the area of a flat operating unit. The operating unit exhibits at least in one area of its surface a touch-sensitive coating which is connected to an evaluating unit and determines the respective touch coordinates and transfers them to a sequence unit. The sequence unit registers the beginning of a touch as a preselection and triggers a control function immediately before a termination of the touch contact in dependence on a touch positioning.
