PURPOSE:To display a still picture with an aspect ratio of 3:2 on a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9 without generating distortion on the whole screen. CONSTITUTION:A still picture signal with an aspect ratio of 3:2, the number of lines of 521 and the number of dots per line of 768 is reproduced from a CD-ROM 1. The reproduced still picture signal is converted into a still picture signal with the number of dots per line of 768 and the number of lines of 480 by a decoding processing part 3, a part corresponding to the number of lines of 432 which is adaptive to a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9 is extracted by a number of lines converting part 7 and the number of lines of 432 is converted into the number of effective lines of 480 in the wide screen. A still picture signal outputted from the conversion part 7 is converted into an analog still picture signal by a D/A converter 8, the analog signal is converted into an NTSC type signal format by an NTSC decoder part 9 and the NTSC type signal is supplied to a television receiver 10 having a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 16:9. |
