The base of the pan has lumps (13) on its surface which have rounded tops and are randomly distributed. These are separated by hollows (14) and the volume occupied by the hollows is less than that occupied by lumps. The height of the lumps is between 0.01-0.2 mm. The surface is covered with a non-stick layer. A metal matrix is attacked by electro-erosion to form hollows separated by reliefs. This is applied to a plate, made of softer metal, to imprint the hollows and lumps on this. It is then shaped to form the pan.
