A locking and adjusting arrangement for precision optical instruments comprises first and second mountings 56, 58 defining respective opposing first and second concave surfaces 60, 62 and a member 64 for location between the mountings and defining oppositely directed convex surfaces 66, 68 for engaging respective concave surfaces. Adjustment is provided by loosening nut 74 of fixed pin 72 and rotating member 64 about a vertical axis passing through the engaging surfaces. Linear adjustment along the vertical axis is achieved by means of shim 80 and positioning relative to the other two axes is accomplished by means of an eccentric hole 84, which is a tight fit on pin 72, in plate 82. The member 64 and first and second mountings 56, 58 are locked along the vertical axis by nut 74; the first mounting 56 and plate 82 being fixed, with respect to the other axes, to pin 72 by adhesive. <IMAGE> |
