The profiled face (11) is drawn over still green sprayed pointing-up material. In the movement direction in front of the profiled face the excessive spray material is extracted from the face by vacuum. The smoothing tool (10) has a line (12), coupled to the profiled face, leading to a separator (13) linked to a vacuum pump. The profiled face is typically formed by an arcuated or annular rubber profile. The connection of the face and line may be releasable. The line may be a pipe, whose end adjacent to the profiled face is chamfered.
