The invention concerns a vehicle-mounted device for signalling a distance warning to other road users, in particular to immediately following vehicles. At least one visible laser beam is emitted by the device towards the rear, i.e. in the opposite direction to that in which the vehicle is travelling, and angled down towards the road surface. The laser beam is kept aimed at an angle such that the distance between the vehicle and the point of impact of the beam on the road surface is approximately equal to the safety distance which an immediately following vehicle should observe. The device is used to emit, particularly in poor weather conditions, a signal which is clearly visible but not dazzling and which indicates to the driver of a following vehicle the safety distance to be observed. The device can at the same time be used to give information on the acceleration/deceleration status of the vehicle on which it is mounted. |
