PURPOSE:To propel a shield machine pertinently, depending upon a condition. CONSTITUTION:A measurement device 6 for measuring the position and posture of a shield machine 1 is provided, together with detection devices 12 and 12 for detecting the amount of sediment excavated with the machine 1 and a propulsion jack 5 for advancing the machine 1 in the required excavation direction. A condition resembling a current advancing condition is retrieved from past advance conditions stored in the database of a computer 15, and the propulsion jack 5 is controlled on the basis of advance data corresponding to the retrieved condition, thereby propelling the machine 1. |
