PURPOSE:To protect an electronic controller provided in an outdoor unit against thermal expansion and make deicing and overload controls possible during heating operation. CONSTITUTION:When a user turns a main switch 4 of an indoor unit 1 on to connect the indoor unit 1 to a commercial power source 22 and inputs a start-up instruction, an indoor-side electronic controller 5 turns a main relay 7 on to connect a fan motor 13 of an outdoor unit 2 to the commercial power source 22 through a relay 16 and rotate it and a compressor 18 to the power source 22 to let it start compressing action. The normal position of a four-way valve 12 is the refrigerating cycle position and an outdoor-side electronic controller 11 is out of operation during cooling operation because a heating operation relay 8 is off and the primary side of an outdoor-side electronic controller transformer 17 is not connected to the power source 22. On the other hand, when the relay 8 is turned on and the controller 11 is brought in operation during heating operation, the controller 11 executes deicing operation according to the detected outputs of an outdoor heat exchanger temperature sensor 20 and an outside temperature sensor 21, informs the indoor unit 1 about it through a deicing detecting relay 10 and performs overload controls through the outdoor fan motor relay 16.
