1,072,183. Heat exchangers. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Sept. 23, 1964 [Nov. 14, 1963], No. 38836/64. Heading F4S. In a heat exchanger intended for use as an air-cooled radiator for an I.C. engine, comprising tubes 12 extending between upper and lower header tanks (the upper tank 10 being shown), the tube ends 54 which are of rectangular crosssection, are received in an elongated slot 22 formed in one wall 17 of the header by inwardly extending lips 17a, 17b. The header is preferably made from an extruded aluminium section. The tubes 12 shown are of elongated cross-section and corrugated fin elements 13 are positioned between the tubes. Projecting lips 20, 21 on the header serve to locate the fins (see Fig. 1) and also to divert the air flow over the finned portions of the tubes. The lower header may be formed with an integral compartment therein serving as an oil cooler. Each header is formed with an integral flange (18, 34) which is slotted and serves for mounting the radiator. |
