A dishwashing machine comprises an outlet sump 2, which is provided at the base 1 of a rinsing container and has outlets 3, 4 for a circulating pump and an emptying pump, and filtering means in the form of a funnel-shaped fine filter 5 of large area, which passes over into a fine filter cylinder 6 bounding an outlet channel 7 leading to the outlet 4, and a coarse filter 10 arranged in the outlet channel 7 in the form of a tube open at both ends having a closed wall and flow detecting means 11, 12 within. The coarse filter retains particles, such as toothpicks and bones, which may damage the pumps, but not large area soft residues, such as milk skins, unlikely to cause such damage. <IMAGE>
