The failure of exposure lamp is prevented by controlling the operation of the lamp when high current flows. When the lamp is turned on, the intensity of light which is reflected from the original copy is converted by the exposure sensor, amplifier, and analog-digital converter to one of 8-step values, which is then transferred to a personal computer. When the computer finds the value higher than 8, it stops the operation of copy machine.
