In a water desalination process a medium is heated in solar energy collectors, after which part of the solar energy so gained is recovered from condensation as latent heat and then surrendered to the salt water. The novelty is that: - the salt water is delivered to a storage vessel above the evaporator and condenser, from which it flows under gravity first through the condenser and then through the solar collector and to the evaporator. - the heated liquid medium e.g. salt water flows from the top into the evaporator which incorporates a non-woven fleece mattress - an exchange of circulating air takes place between the evaporator chamber and the condenser chamber by means of natural convection - the air bearing an enriched load of evaporated moisture, condenses in the condenser outer walls which incorporate a number of channels, through which flows the salt water - some of the latent heat of condensation is then surrendered to the salt water - the condensed water flows down the channel outer walls and is returned to a storage tank. Further that the assembly is fabricated from polypropylene.
