PURPOSE:To provide a burner of simple structure capable of synthesizing an optical fiber preform at a high speed while allowing a raw material to react sufficiently even if more material is supplied than before. CONSTITUTION:A hood 24 projecting further than the tip is coaxially arranged at the tip of a multitube burner 23. The flame of the burner 23 is injected into the hood 24. A gas is injected from its injection 29 provided to the hood 24 to throttle the flame.
