New hybrid protein corresp. to HTLV-3 env and gag determinants

Process for the detection of antibodies to the AIDS virus in human serum comprises: (a) immobilising a protein (with an aminoacid sequence conforming to the determinant gp. of the HTLV-III gag-protein and the HTLV-III env-protein) on a solid support; (b) contacting the serum sample and the immobilised protein; (c) removing unbound proteins and antibodies by washing; and (d) detecting the immobilised protein-antibody complex by addn. of labelled Staphylococcus aureus protein A or labelled human anti-IgG-antibody. Pref. the protein includes the 600-amino acid sequence given in the specification.
