PURPOSE:To make an optical phase modulator suited to connection with an optical fiber and to improve modulation efficiency in an optical short pulse generator for phase-modulating signal light, widening a spectrum, phase compensating it so as to let all the frequency components be practically the same phase and compressing pulses. CONSTITUTION:The plural optical phase modulators 11-1, 11-2,... are cascade connected, the relative phase difference of the signal.light and modulation signals is compensated by phase shifters 12-1, 12-2,... in respective input and phase modulation is repeatedly performed by the plural, optical phase modulators 11-1, 11-2,.... Thus, the large phase modulation can be obtained. |
