<p>PURPOSE:To obtain acetic acid in high space time yield with remarkably suppressed production of carbon dioxide as a byproduct by vapor phase catalytic reaction between ethylene and oxygen in a single step with prolonged catalyst service life. CONSTITUTION:The objective acetic acid can be obtained by reaction between ethylene and oxygen in the presence of (1) a catalyst comprising (a) metallic palladium and (b) at least one compound selected from heteropoly-acids and salts thereof or (2) another catalyst comprising (a) metallic palladium, (b) at least one compound selected from heteropoly-acids and salts thereof and (c) at least one kinds of element selected from group 11, 14, 15 and 16 metals.</p> |
