<p>Moving rail vehicles are weighed by apparatus comprising a set (16, 17) of strain gauges mounted on the web of a rail (10') in such a manner as to measure shear stress in the web of the rail as a load to be weighed passes over the rail. Preferably four strain gauges may be mounted at each end of a rail adjacent at point where the rail is supported, the four strain gauges being connected in the form of a Wheatstone bridge. <IMAGE></p> |
