The device senses the first and the end in a driving of the video tape to improve a reliability about the tape sensing and make a design easy. The device characterizes that an end sensor is set between a guide roller and an over-all width magnetic erasing head of a runway outer block of the tape; and a start sensor is set between an audio control head and the guide roller, the end sensor and the start sensor being set so that a luminous element and a light receiving element may be isolated at a given distance side by side in a direction of the cassette tape from the body, and a face which the luminous element and the light receiving element are set has a slant face of an approximate 15 degrees angle against the tape.
