The present invention relates to a matting for an auscultation or operating table or chair, which table or chair is used in the medical profession by a practitioner, such as a general practitioner, a gynaecologist, a physiotherapist, etc. for auscultating or operating on a patient who is lying or sitting on the matting. It also relates to a table or a chair equipped with a matting. The matting is characterised in that it is provided with a plurality of channels (13) which open out on the surface of the said matting (2, 3, 40, 41, 42) on which the patient normally rests, and which are connected to a suction unit (7) for creating a partial vacuum underneath the said surface.
