The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of aminotriazine derivatives of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) by the solvolysis of compounds of the formula II <IMAGE> (II) in the presence of gaseous hydrogen chloride in an alcoholic medium. The compounds of formula I are useful as intermediates in the manufacture of insecticides.
