A guard fence is provided with a side support, a wing which is attached to the support and can be moved between an open position and a closed position, and a drive for the wing. Control means control the drive. The wing is attached to the support with the aid of a movement mechanism, which is designed in such a manner that the wing, in the passage direction of the guard fence, executes both a translational movement and a rotational movement when closing. The movement mechanism may comprise a four-bar mechanism.
