PURPOSE:To reduce the data amount of font data without lowering the degree of freedom of expression of a character pattern and to effectively use conventional font technique. CONSTITUTION:The contour lines of both end parts in each stroke which comprises the character pattern are described as detail shape data by an outline system, and also, the shape of the contour lines at both sides of a main part are described as main part data consisting of the combination of reference data representing the shape of a core wire passing the intermediate part of each contour line and a sampling value representing the width of the main part in accordance with the core wire. The main part data and the detail shape data are stored in a font ROM 2 as the font data segmented at every character. A CPU 1 performs an operation to develop the font data read out from the font ROM 2 as a bit image on character pattern developing memory 3, however, the CPU performs development after converting the main part data, when reading out the main part data, to the descriptive format of the detail shape data. |
