<p>The invention relates to a device for overlapping and depositing sheets 6 which are cut by a cross-cutter 2-5. The device comprises, arranged directly in front of a stacking station 11, a combined conveying and braking device 16-22 which consists of conveying and braking cams arranged above the conveyor track for the sheets 6 and of sliding elements 16 and braking elements 18 arranged below the conveyor track. The braking cams 22, which rotate at the speed of conveyance, cause the sheet end to be deflected downwards and pressed against sliding elements 16, with the result that the conveying speed defined by preceding conveying elements 8, 9 remains unchanged. The braking operation and the overlapping begin only when the cams 22 leave the sliding elements 16 and come into contact with braking elements 18 which are in the form of suction belts and rotate at the braking speed.
