Fan units of this type, consisting of a motor carrier with a drive motor, on the output shaft of which an impeller is firmly arranged, and with an intake plate arranged in the axial direction in front of the impeller, firmly connected to the motor carrier and having an inflow nozzle, are normally fitted in an air duct of a room-ventilation apparatus. To achieve effective sound insulation and structure-borne sound insulation, it is proposed that the outer marginal section of the intake plate be firmly connected in an encircling manner to the wall of the air duct, the motor carrier being supported with a silencer in the fitted state in the air duct, and the thickness of the intake plate to the hydraulic diameter of the air duct being about 1 : 500 and the hydraulic diameter of the intake plate to the diameter of the impeller being about 1 : 1.5. <IMAGE>
