<p>A protective head covering which comprises a safety helmet (1) having sealing means (3) which also functions as retention and suspension means, wherein the sealing means is adapted to enclose a space (6) comprising the hair of the wearer along the hairline of the wearer, to retain the helmet on the head of the wearer, and to suspend the helmet above the head of the wearer, when the helmet is being worn, and wherein the space encloses an air cushion which suspends the helmet above the head of the wearer by engaging the skin of the wearer thereby retaining the helmet on the head of the wearer, the air cushion being captured between the sealing means (3, 4) and the head of the wearer at the time the safety helmet is put on by the wearer. The invention also includes a soft, flexible water impermeable helmet body.</p> |
