PURPOSE:To provide the color liquid crystal display device which can color display without using color filters and can improve the brightness over the entire part of a screen by brightening a back ground part. CONSTITUTION:A TN type liquid crystal cell for coloration is arranged between a TN type liquid crystal cell 30 for decoloration having electrodes 33, 34 and one polarizing plate 51. The values of DELTAnd of both liquid crystal cells 30, 40 are equaled and the twisting directions of liquid crystal molecules 38a, 46a are reversed from each other. The transmission axes of a pair of the polarizing plates 51, 52 are shifted diagonally at 45 deg. in the orienting directions of the liquid crystal molecules on the substrates 32, 41 side adjacent to the polarizing plates of both liquid crystal cells 30, 40. The transmission axes of the two polarizing plates 51, 52 are arranged in parallel with each other. |
