A spill containment boom (5) is stored along a shoreline. Attached to one end of the deployable boom is a flotation device (3). The boom is deployed into the river or other moving waterway by a cable (1) to which the boom is attached via a shackle. The deployment cable runs through a pulley (17) which is attached to an anchor (15) on the bottom of the river. The other end of the deployment cable is attached to a winch system located on shore on a "take-up" reel (11). The deployment cable originates on a "supply reel" (9) which pays out as the take up reel pulls the other end of the cable. Pollutants are channeled toward the shore where a pump system (44) can pump the pollutants into holding tanks. A boom tension device (50) insures that tension is maintained on the bottom to keep it in contact with the water at the shoreline. |
