PURPOSE:To allow manufacture of a downsized, steam resistant low temperature operation gas sensor by employing lithium carbonate mixed with alumina as a solid electrolytic material for composing the cell of a sensor. CONSTITUTION:A solid electrolyte 1 mixed with Al2O3, is employed as a substance containing an alkaline carbonate as a matrix. Since lithium carbonate has high affinity with water, it can exist stably upto the vicinity of melting point even when steam is present. Furthermore, the sensor can be operated at low temperature by adding Al2O3 and metal ions of carbonate having valency different from that of Li to lithium carbonate. Porous Au paste electrodes 2, 2' are formed on the opposite sides of the electrolyte 1 and then connected with current collectors 3, 3' of Au mesh and Au lead wires 4, 4' thus constituting a cell. The cell is loaded to an Al2O3 pipe 5 and subjected to gas seal 6, 6'. Reference gas is then fed into the pipe 5 whereas a gas to be sensed is fed to the outside thus constituting a concentration cell. Concentration of CO2 is measured based on the difference of electromotive force between both electrodes. |
