PURPOSE:To obtain a composition for blending horticultural soil, composed of copper- containing active carbon prepared by carbonizing and activating cut or pulverized powder of selvedge wastes of a phenolic resin copper-clad laminate, having both antimicrobial and antifungal action of the copper component and deodorizing action of the active carbon and effective in improving horticultural soil. CONSTITUTION:Cut or pulverized powder of selvedge wastes of a phenolic resin copper- clad laminate (passing through a 5-mesh screen) is carbonized at 700 deg.C in an atmosphere of nitrogen and subsequently activated with steam at 850 deg.c to afford the objective composition for blending horticultural soil composed of 50-80% active carbon component and 20-50% copper component. Furthermore, this composition in a quantity of 2-30vol.% is uniformly mixed with horticultural culture soil placed in a flowerpot such as a flowerpot made of a plastic or the composition is processed into a granular form and dispersed in the soil or kept in an air-permeable state and molded into a disk, which is arranged under the flowerpot for use. The composition has both the antimicrobial and antifungal action of the copper component and the deodorizing action of the active carbon component and extremely effective in improving horticultural soil. |
