The residual gas portion of the fresh mixture is adjusted by a control mechanism (1-8). It performs targetted control of the pressure differential between intake and discharge channels. For this purpose, the flow cross-section in the intake or exhaust system is altered.The flow cross section is altered dependent upon the engine load, so that with small load, there are low residual gas portions, higher portions with medium load, and minimum residual gas at full load. The process is carried out by a flap, which is located in the intake and/or exhaust system, and may be operated indirectly or directly by the accelerator pedal. |
