PURPOSE:To provide a picture data processor which has a simple constitution but quickly performs the reduction processing of an arbitrary reduction rate with less picture quality degradation. CONSTITUTION:An integrating means 7 measures the number of white or black picture elements in the area, having the number of picture element in the vertical direction and that in the horizontal direction are Ly and Lx (Ly and Lx are natural numbers), for picture data of a first picture area. A dividing means 9 normalizes the measurement result by means of the integrating means 7 to a prescribed level to convert it into multivalue picture data and supplies the data to a second picture area. A vertical area setting means 5 sets Ay+1 to Ly with a probability alphay and sets Ay to Ly with a probability 1-alphay and thetay are the integer part and the decimal part of the Ky with a thinning interval as Ky in the vertical direction at every processing in the vertical direction of the second picture area. A horizontal area setting means 6 sets Ax+1 to Lx with a probability alphax and sets Ax to Lx with a probability 1-alphax at every processing in the horizontal direction of the second picture area, where, Ax and alphax are the integer parts and the decimal part of the Kx with a thinning interval as Kx in the horizontal direction. |
