A grafting implement suitable for automation and a method of grafting by means of the same, in which grafting work can be easily performed and removal of the grafting implement is not required after joining of grafting parts. The grafting implement comprises a grafting plate of a hard synthetic resin for a rootstock and a grafting plate of a somewhat soft synthetic resin for a scion. The grafting plates for a rootstock and a scion are each provided with a centrally positioned joining groove and joining projections or joining holes on the both sides of the joining groove. Provided upwardly of the center of the joining groove are two or more protruding stripes. The grafting implement is configured such that when the grafting plates for a rootstock and a scion are joined together, the joining grooves are in elliptical shapes at upper and lower surfaces thereof, or in an acutely angled shape at the upper surface on the side of the scion and a small, arcuate-shape on the side of the rootstock, and in a small, arcuate-shape at the lower surface on the side of the scion and an arcuate-shape on the side of the rootstock which is wider than that on the side of the grafting stock to cover the joining groove on the side of the scion. The method of the grafting comprises the steps of providing a rootstock which is cut slantwise at about 30 degrees from a scion side toward a root side and a scion which is cut somewhat longer than the rootstock, placing the rootstock in the joining prove of the grafting plate for a roostock with the cut surface teherof facing upward, placing a scion on the rootstock in a manner to put the cutting surfaces of the scion and the rootstock together, and inserting the joining projections on one of the grafting plates into the joining holes on the other of the grafting plates for retention. |
