Operation and use of a games machine is provided by insertion of a magnetic data card (17) into a reader (14). The card contains data defining an allowed number of games and this is transferred into a memory built into the unit. The results of any game that result in credit are transferred to the memory and then onto the card. The card reader is built into the housing as a module secured by screws (16).
