The invention is based on a method for making rubber mixtures, in which, in a first stage, a basic mixture is prepared in an internal mixer (1) with floating weight and, in a second stage, a finished mixture is prepared in an internal mixer (9) without floating weight in batches, to be precise dispensing with intermediate storage. In order to improve the cooling in the internal mixer without floating weight, according to the invention its inner space is charged with air (13, 14) which is of a dryness avoiding the precipitation of condensation. To achieve the same, there is provided between the two internal mixers a substantially air-tight duct (8), in which there is also space for the bottom closure of the internal mixer with floating weight, in the swung-out state. ……
