POLYAMIDE FILAMENTS HAVING IMPROVED PROPERTIES AND METHOD OF PREPARATION A polyamide filament having improved properties such as increased tenacity and dyeability. The filament has a birefringence of at least 0.040 and an .alpha.-crystal content of at least 30%. The filament is prepared by contacting the filament with water after the filament has been cooled to a temperature below its stick point but above its glass transition temperature. The water can be applied intermittently to the filament to produce a resulting filament having variable dyeing characteristics.
