The remote control system uses a cooperating transmitter and receiver (1, 2) for transmission of a coded pulse signal in the form of light pulses in the IR range. The transmitter is activated automatically by use of an auxiliary receiver (4) sensitive to the pulses provided by the transmitter (1) and controlling an auxiliary transmitter (5) for transmitting pulses to the receiver (2). The transmitter (1) and receiver (2) are housed within a common transceiver module (6), together with the evaluation circuit, the auxiliary transmitter and receiver (5, 4) housed in a second postable transceiver module (7).
