摘要 <p>Delivery capsules which include a beneficial agent and an activating mechanism (15) in separate compartments separated by a movable partition (14) are designed to deliver the beneficial agent in a pulsatile manner through an orifice (13). The pulsatile delivery is achieved by a pair of guide members (21, 23) inside the capsule (11), one secured to the capsule itself and the other to the movable partition. The guide members, which may be a shaft (21) and sleeve (23), a shaft (128) and ring (129), or some similar combination of elements, guide the motion of the partition along the axis (12) of the capsule. The motion may be linear or rotational in a screw-type manner, depending on whether or not the shaft is threaded. A series of stops or detents (22) is formed on one of the guide members and one or more catches or detent-engaging members (27) is formed on the other. The catches (27) check the movement of the partition and permit such movement to occur in pulses as the pressure rises above a threshold level. The number and spacing of detents (22) establish the number and frequency of the pulses, and the pulsing function operates independently of the sealing contact between the partition and the inner wall of the capsule.</p>
