PURPOSE:To select a candidate efficiently by the same operation even regardless of the number of candidates by displaying only phonic symbols of conversion candidates coinciding with phonic symbol information in a 2nd storage means on a display screen in order. CONSTITUTION:A character or character string when inputted from an input means 101 is stored in a 1st storage means 103 and converted by a candidate conversion control means 106 into a conversion candidate in response to an indication for conversion by using a KANA(Japanese syllabary)/KANJI(Chinese character) dictionary and the conversion candidate is stored in a the 1st storage means 103 and displayed by a display means 102. When the position of the character or character string as the conversion candidate is directly indicated through a character position indicating means 104 before a succeeding candidate is requested, the character or character string is stored in the 2nd storage means 105 distinctively between an effective phonic symbol and an ineffective phonic symbol. A candidate conversion control means 106 converts the next candidate on the basis of information on the conversion candidate stored in the 2nd storage means 105, and displays only the phonic symbol or the conversion candidate matching the phonic symbol information in the 2nd storage means 105 on the display screen at this time. |
