Connecting rod welded from steel - has break-off point in crank eye, to facilitate cracking

The connecting rod (1) has a crank eye (2) with a break-off point. This consists of a gap (6), formed in one or both wide sides of the crank eye. The longitudinal gap extension is radially to the large opening (3) of the crank eye. The gap has a depth of pref. more than 0,5 mm, but less than 1,0 mm, pref. 0,65 mm. The material fibre extending in longitudinal direction of the connecting rod is continuous in the area of the gap, and follows the gap shape. USE/ADVANTAGE - Connecting rod welded from steel in which cracking takes place conventionally, but process is more economical due to fewer working steps.
