PURPOSE:To acquire an electrode with a highly active performance to the oxygen reducing reaction and a highly durable property at the same time so as to improve a high quality and a long service life of a cell, by using an alloy catalyst held by carbon, which is an alloy catalyst of a precious metal and nickel or cobalt in a carbon micropowder. CONSTITUTION:This electrode for a fuel cell uses an alloy catalyst of a precious metal and nickel or cobalt held in a carbon micropowder. And the content of nickel or cobalt in the alloy is 1 to 40 atm % to the precious metal atoms, and an alloy catalyst held by carbon, with the relative surface area of the precious metal at least more than 20$/g is mixed and kneaded with a binder, Teflon Dispersion, and then, they are spread on a porous body, and baked up to be the electrode. And, the alloy catalyst held by carbon is made by heat- treating a precious metal catalyst held by carbon, mixed with a nickel oxide (NiO) or a cobalt oxide (CoO) in a reducing atmosphere after mixing. |
