When different brake unit position sensor signals are received at the electronic control unit (8), the higher signal causes a pressure change at the lower signal. During operation of the braking unit, a variable number of regulating cycles is carried out. These include: pressure control, signal determination and signal evaluation, resulting in pressure changes. During a first phase of the operation, a low number of regulating cycles are carried out to compensate for wear. In a second phase, a higher number of regulating cycles is undertaken to compensate for the pressure differences. ADVANTAGE - In one phase only small heating influence exists; in second phase, measures are taken to reduce unpermitted thermal loading. Brake lining wear is reduced and higher quality of temp. compensation results.
