The level regulator uses a controlled resistance (15), controlled digitally in response to a level control signal (P), with a value representing the level of the signal to be processed. This is extracted from a television signal, with a decoder (12) providing the level control signal dependent on a reference voltage level of the TV signal. Pref. the resistance is provided by a shift register receiving the level control signal, or a digital signal extracted from the latter, with controlled switches responding to the value of the shift register output signal to switch in a number of resistance elements.
