DECODER FOR BLOCK CONVERSION CODE

PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of estimation and to improve restored pictures by correcting an important word by two methods when the important word generated by block encoding is erroneous and selecting correction output on a side where the continuity of blocks is maintained more. CONSTITUTION:An ADRC decoding circuit 3 decodes the blocks for which the important word is not erroneous and the encoded value of the block for which the important value is erroneous is transmitted to a post stage. An important word estimating and ADRC decoding circuit 5 decodes the data of the block under consideration using the important word estimated by the method of least squares. The other important word estimating and ADRC decoding circuit 6 decodes the data of the block under consideration using the important word formed from the boundary data of peripheral blocks. A selection circuit 8 selects a decoded result from a memory 4 when the important word is not erroneous. When the important word is erroneous, the decoded value at the side where the sum of the absolute values of differential values is smaller is selected within the circuits 5 and 6.
