PURPOSE:To provide an image expansion device which can generate a large amount of expanded picture element in a short time with a simple constitution. CONSTITUTION:Concerning only the picture element of which horizontal address of the expanded image is an odd numbered address when the vertical address of the expanded image after conversion is an odd numbered address and only the picture element of which horizontal address of the expanded image is an even numbered address when the vertical address of the expanded image is the even number address, the luminance value of four surrounding picture elements and the value of inverse numbered of displacement from the four points of original image positions are obtd. by the load average of the four-product-sum. Then, concerning only the even number address picture element of the horizontal address of the expanded image when the vertical address of the expanded image after conversion is an odd numbered address and only the odd numbered address picture element of the horizontal address of the expanded image when the vertical address of the expanded image is an even numbered address, a sub-sample interpolation device 18 interpolates each picture element by adding the four picture elements of the above/below and right/left of the expanded image and rounding the result with the same accuracy with an original image. Consequently, a large amount of expanded picture elements can be generated at a high speed with a simple constitution. |
